PHARMACY
The
department deals with ordering, purchasing, distribution, dispensing
and storage of drugs and medical supplies, equipments and laboratory
reagents.
There
is a bulk store, OPD pharmacy which has a sub store, dispensing area,
distillation unit, compounding unit and another dispensing unit is
localized in the RCH clinic. Also the CTC has its own pharmacy.
The
hospital has ADO – essential medicine shop at the hospital gate.2
medical attendants who had followed the ado course are assigned
there. The shop makes essential drugs which are not available in the
hospital to patients near the hospital and for a reasonable price
We
also have a distribution point for drugs for NHIF and other insured
patients this attracts insured patients and boosts the NHIF income
The
hospital purchases drugs and medical consumables from private vendors
if they are out of stock at MSD. There is a pharmaceutical committee
and a procurement officer and team. As Much as possible we obtain
drugs and supplies from the Prime vendor identified by the Regional
Government. However laboratory supplies theatre supplies and other
items are most not or rarely available so that we still rely on other
vendors as well. Vendors have been identified who supply good quality
drugs for reasonable prices. These drugs are paid from NHIF fund,
other health insurances, and donations from Brothers of Mercy,
Friends of Sengerema Hospital, and other private benefactors. The
pharmaceutical committee approves proposals of the procurement
officer.
