Administration
In
1976 Sengerema District was formed and the Hospital became Designated
District Hospital. In 1986 the Diocese of Geita was formed comprising
of Geita and Sengerema Districts and the ownership went to the
Diocese of Geita.
24th
June 2016 a contract was signed between the Diocese of Geita and the
Sengerema District council and the hospital became a Council
Designated Hospital.
In
2017 updated version was signed in January 2018. Sengerema District
was divided in Sengerema District and Buchosa District. As Buchosa
has no hospital yet we still serve the population of the 2 districts.
However, Mwangika Health Centre has operating theatre facilities and
staff to do emergency surgeries.
The
District has 443.697 inhabitants’ 26 wards 71 villages and 4337
area square km of which dry land 1799 square km.
The
District has 49 health facilities: 1 hospital –FBO 4 health centers
41 dispensaries of which 2 private, 1 FBO and 2 private Primat
clinics. A private health centre at Kamanga started operating in the
last month of 2017.Their ambulance is a great help bringing patients
to hospital
The
main tribes are Sukuma, Zinza, Kerewe, Sumbwa, Haya and others in
minority. Main economic activities are agriculture, livestock
keeping, fishing, timber work and government and non-government
employment. Education (private schools) and small factories and
hotels are growing sectors.
The
hospital has an inpatient and outpatient department. Actual bed state
is 316 beds since July 2015 from 301 beds. This includes 14 pre labor
beds in labor ward. Approved bed state is only 175. Occupancy rate
was 81 %
The
hospital has a waiting home for pregnant mothers with 36 beds and a
relative’s hostel. In case there are more pregnant mothers than
beds in waiting hostel, we make use of a room in the relatives’
hostel.
Outreach
and supervisory activities of first line health units and school
health activities are carried out on behalf of the CHMT. The
hospital ambulance is 23 years old. Thanks to good maintenance and
the expertise of the hospital drivers it is still on the road,
bringing patients to Bugando Medical Center. A new ambulance is on
the hospitals wish list.
The
legal owner of the hospital is the Bishop of Geita. He is the final
decision-making authority.

team meets every 2-4 weeks and when need arises.
The
management has a good cooperation with trade union leaders was kept
up, both TUGHE and TALGU
The
medical officer in charge meets once a month with the HUDUMA BORA
meeting. The HUDUMA BORA meeting unites all in charges of wards and
departments as well as representatives from the office of the DMO,
the principals of the colleges attached to the hospital and the ward
councilor and the ward secretaries of surrounding villages. Huduma
Bora is the advisory committee to the Hospital Management Team. The
meeting annually chooses a secretary and assistant secretary, as well
as members to various committees thus, Employment committee,
Disciplinary committee, Housing committee, Committee to prepare feast
days, Infection Prevention Committee, Quality Improvement Committee,
Hospital therapeutic committee. The medical officer in charge then
appoints the members. In December the members presented their
departments’ plans and needs to be integrated in the Council
Comprehensive Health Plan.
