LABORATORY
It
is the department which deals with various investigations for in
patients and out patients. There are 6 sections and 3 subsections:
Reception, Chemistry, Blood bank, Hematology, Parasitology and
Microbiology:- Subsections are Serology and Bacteriology, CWC and
ANC.
The
team of the laboratory did a very good job preparing for the
international assessment for accreditation. A 4 star level was
attained.
For
further steps to 5 star and international recognition a lot needs to
be done yet. There are plans to expand the laboratory in existing
rooms if the future RCH and Emergency care have been realized and
some space will be available. Essential equipment like a safety
cabinet still is needed and updated machines especially for
hematological and chemical analysis as well as regular assessment of
staff.
The
responsibility for blood donation is largely returned to the hospital
for funding however blood bags are received from the zonal blood
bank. Outside school holidays once or twice a week donation in
secondary schools is done, during school holidays we approached
various churches in Sengerema town.
