In 1976 Sengerema District was formed and the Hospital became Designated District Hospital. In 1986 the Diocese of Geita was formed comprising of Geita and Sengerema Districts and the ownership went to the Diocese of Geita. 24th June 2016 a contract was signed between the Diocese of Geita and the Sengerema District council
