SR. FELICINA WARD- CHILDREN’S WARD
Pediatric
ward has 70 beds divided in 4 large rooms and 2 smaller: C and D for
infectious diseases, A for children with malnutrition and HIV/TB B
for children with surgical conditions room E with 3 beds admits
pediatric cancer patients. Outside facilities include a pit latrine,
washing slab, nutrition kitchen, benches and tables for meals outside
and a playground
Children
ICU combines intensive treatment and close observation with receiving
children for triage and initial treatment and for their repeated
injections.
Children
with malnutrition receive soya/maize porridge, milk and eggs.
All
malnourished children are screened for TB and HIV.
A
soya/maize based F75 /F100 mix is provided for severely malnourished
children as well as milk and eggs.
There
is cooperation with the doctors of Muhimbili National Hospital
pediatric cancer ward as well as BMC to make sure that children with
cancer get the treatment they need in an environment they can afford.
Drugs and guidance we get from Tumaini la Maisha, the NGO which
works at Muhimbili paediatric cancer ward.
Most
children with cancer at some point will be referred to pediatric
cancer ward at Muhimbili National Hospital for intensive treatment,
radiation and or surgery. Between Sengerema and Bugando pediatric
cancer care there is close cooperation as to have our patients get
their care in the better environment for them.
